July 9&10 - Hauppauge, NY July 21&22 - Westbury, NY Workshop Registration Form PDF Workshop Title: Creative Listening – Revitalizing the experience of the sound of music Description: This workshop has two goals – to demonstrate specific listening techniques which can heighten our intellectual and emotional response to musical sounds, and to provide participants with a methodology for teaching these listening techniques to students through performing groups as well as through classroom teaching. Participants will learn to separate listening to music from listening to the sound of music. Course content will include topics such as acoustics, psychoacoustics, music history and performance techniques. In addition, the course will closely examine the profound effect of technology on the creation, recording, performance and perception of music. The course will include hundreds of musical examples in many different styles as well as relevant examples in other art forms including drama and the visual arts. Workshop outcomes and applications will be aligned with both the National Standards and the New York State Learning Standards.
