Notes
Laudate was recorded in 1978 on an
8 track machine and was released on the "Anthology" album. I played all of the
instruments and tried to perform each part in
the style of some of the well-known jazz-rock players at the time:
Guitar: Al Di Meola
Bass: Stanley Clarke
Keyboard violin sound: Jean-Luc Ponty
Synthesizer sound: Chick Corea
Drums: Billy Cobham
The two tracks of guitar chords starting the
piece were produced on a Gibson SG (L) and an Epiphone Casino (R). The Casino
was tuned an octave higher (except for the two top strings), and was miked very
close to the pick guard to create extra presence. The bass solo was enhanced by
running the sound through a Mutron Bi-Phase. The lead guitar "disintegration"
effect and wide pitch bend effect were both produced using an Eventide
Harmonizer. The mechanical groove after the synthesizer solo was produced by an
ARP 2600 and an ARP Odyssey. The tape reversal effect at the end was produced by
- reversing the tape.
